Self submission of British Citizenship - Initial questions

Post by TheHappyChicken » Sun Aug 27, 2023 10:19 pm

Hi there, getting prepared early for this.

The mods will recognise me from my recent questions on our ILR SET(M) application which is well under way - Thanks to all the help and support the mods provide, I cannot say this enough! You really have selfishly helped so many people.

We have completed our 5-year spouse visa, and we are currently gathering the information/questions for the next steps on the assumption that we will be granted ILR.

We think it would be worth applying for a British passport, but they would never want to lose their original passport, so we assume that this process will lead to dual citizen/nationality? Their country of birth allows dual nationality.

I am a British Citizen, so I think as soon as we have ILR approved, we can start applying for British Citizenship?

Is this the correct form: https://www.gov.uk/apply-citizenship-in ... -to-remain ?

Any advice on where to start for basic information on British Citizenship application? For ILR, we went off what our lawyer requested, evidence that we provided and forms we previously filled in, which give us the head start in applying.

Naturalisation is generally a straightforward application with a minimum of document requirements. Most people do it themselves.
