Asking for friend whom is married to an Italian citizen

Is it easier to get settlement in Italy married to an Italian citizen or,
Move to another EU country exercising freedom of movement route?

Any advise preferable from senior members or first hand experience would be much appreciated

Hi, It depends on your friend's nationality. EU law (Freedom of movement) is easy to secure the visa and also fast. It's unlikely your friend will encounter any problems but even if that happens your friend can use Solvit for complaints. As i said it depends on the nationality to go with the national law route, they may demand more documents and longer processing time or otherwise.

If your friend decides to use the EU law route, your friend can just get residence in another EU country, stay there with the Italian spouse for 6 months then move back to Italy with the spouse. The residence card will be considered as a national type D visa in Italy. Your friend can apply for residence permit for family member of EU/Italian in Italy. After 2 years your friend can apply for citizenship.

Many thanks for your response. Very useful indeed. The Non-EU National is from a country that won’t be facing requirements for additional documents so both of your suggestions are very feasible
