Irish passport first time application (via naturalization) from the non-EU country

Post by Sami_z » Tue Oct 03, 2023 5:50 am

My wife applied for Irish citizenship but relocated outside EU few month before she is due to get her citizenship cert. If she attends the next ceremony and receives the cert, will it be possible to apply Irish passport from abroad?

Reading through the below link, it looks like it's possible but wanted to see if anyone had experience with similar situation.

Yes but it may be a bit of a pain to apply from abroad (not sure about if applying from UK)
You’ll need to contact the Irish embassy to make payment for application.
You can get the naturalisation cert and photo page of passport certified by a solicitor/notary public instead of sending in the originals
She must get the paper form of application from the Irish embassy where she resides now (can’t be downloaded)
She’ll need to get her ID confirmed by the notary public or solicitor in the country she is now, including signing of 2 x passport photos (submit 4 photos in total).
She will also need to produce 2 x different utility bills as part of the application from the country she lives in now.
They will not process the application if your wife puts an Irish address and Irish utility bills but lives in another country. You’ll be told to apply from Ireland if address and utility bills are Irish

Good luck

Thanks for the reply.

Isn't the passport application doable via online?

First time passport applications require documents to be sent.
Not a qualified immigration adviser. Use links and references given to gain confirmation and/or extra information.

You can only apply online from a certain countries listed on the DFA website but you’ll still need to send in documents as previously stated on my reply
