Query reg. Renunciation

Post by jacksavvy » Thu Oct 26, 2023 6:30 pm

Hello,

This is in regards to a New/Fresh OCI application for my wife who has received her British Citizenship.

The original Indian Passport of my wife has been misplaced and hence we are not able to surrender the passport.

The part of the OCI process which we are confused about is whether to directly apply by filling in the New/Fresh OCI registration form OR a separate application needs to be filled for renunciation of indian citizenship first.

If we are to apply for a New/Fresh OCI registration would an attached affidavit from a local authority clearly stating unavailability of Indian passport suffice or we need to present any additional document?

Any help regarding this would be highly appreciated.

Its a bit urgent so somebody please help.

In case of lost/misplaced Indian passport - would a notary affidavit suffice?

I believe the timeline for Renunciation is 2 months - so I can only begin my wife's OCI application after that.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Thank you so much @sathyauk

Let me check the link..

In regards to the Renunciation process - is it that the application can be made online OR by post OR in person?

Is it mandatory to attend in person at the VFS to submit Renunciation application too?

Thanks!
