References for Naturalisation

Post by adey2022 » Sun Dec 10, 2023 10:34 pm

Hello all,

Need help for references for naturalisation application for a family of 3 (one minor child).

1. Can the same references be applied for all the applicants?
2. For the minor child, one referee should be 'a person of any nationality who has professional standing.'. What does it mean? Can I give reference of our family friend who is a Doctor and citizen?
3. In the documents list, it says Referee Declaration needed. What does it mean? is there a form to be filled by the referees?

As always, thanks for your help in advance.

Yes, if the referees are qualified to act as referee and know all applicants (see 2. for minor).
2. For the minor child, one referee should be 'a person of any nationality who has professional standing.'. What does it mean? Can I give reference of our family friend who is a Doctor and citizen?
Would be someone like a teacher, nursery nurse, health visitor or similar. Be aware that a lot of these people are reluctant to give out their personal details, so if you are having issues finding a suitable referee per the definition you can use one of your other referees if they know the child. Attach a note to your documents and explain why you can't find the appropriate referee as specified. If you had written refusals attach a copy as well. Caseworkers are familiar with the situation.
3. In the documents list, it says Referee Declaration needed. What does it mean? is there a form to be filled by the referees?
Yes - https://visas-immigration.service.gov.u ... on_MN1.pdf - applies to both adults and minors. You can also print off of format after you have submitted the application.

As always, thanks for your help in advance.

Thanks for responding with the remarks. In the Referee Declaration, the photos needed are of the applicants, correct?

Thanks! Is it recommended to write a cover letter or a summary and attach alongwith the application?

Writing a cover letter is optional, I wrote one because I needed to clarify some parts of the form that didn't cover my particular circumstances, up to you if you want to write one. In your case, if you want, you can attach a letter and point out you are using the same referees as they both know all the applicants.

Thanks again. Do we need an employee reference letter from my company? I submitted that for ILR, but not sure if we need it for naturalisation as well.

No "reference letters" (character references?) are required from anyone. Also of course employment is not a requirement.
The referees just fill in the form, date and sign.

I take you haveUK ILR so your passport(s) covering the residency period are normall sufficient, no statements or bills required.

If your passport gets stamped at the border that and the dates of your trips is all you need.

My old passport where it was stamped got lost and I got a new passport. So as per the rules, I need to get a letter from my company?

You didn't keep a copy of the old passport? If not,
You could attach a letter from your employer confirming you have been/are employed by them from date to date (or present) covering the residency period, or P60s, or Council Tax bills. Just one type of document is sufficient.

No - once referees have signed you scan and upload onto the system. No originals are submitted or sent. The UKVCAS agents are not UKVI caseworkers and won't validate documents.

Thanks! Once submitted, do I have time to upload docs until my biometric appointment? Or do I need to upload everything as soon as I submit?

You don't need to upload same time as submit/pay.
I think you have up until 2 days before the appointment to load all documents.

Once you submit you will be sent a link to log in to UKVCAS and book a biometric appointment. You have until 48 hours to the appointment to upload all your supporting documents.

Unless you book the scanning service, you don't need to bring anything. You will upload everything in advance.
