Tough questions.
The IGS should not be used for full time student study. There is no barrier from going from IGS back to student.

I think the problem you will have is when you try to go to PSW after student again. I believe you only have one bite at IGS/PSW.

Hope that helps.

That's correct one can go back to student from IGS/PSW to student.

1. If you got your IGS/SEGS in UK then you can extend it upto 2 years in total.
2. If you got your IGS/SEGS in UK can go back to student and also can apply for PSW (2 years).
3. If you got your IGS/SEGS outside UK, you can extend it upto 2 years in total and also go back to student, if you wish to. But in this case, you cann't get PSW again.

Where can I find this bit in the rules / guidance or policy? The trouble with IGS is that all the information has been taken off the UKBA site.

It says this in the PSW policy:
Successful applicants in the Tier 1 (Post-Study Work) category will receive a single grant of leave for two years.
No further or subsequent grant will be made under Tier 1 (Post-Study Work).
Applicants in the Tier 1 (Post-Study Work) category will not be able to apply to extend their leave in the United Kingdom.
An applicant who has previously been granted entry clearance or leave to remain as a participant in the International Graduates Scheme, or its predecessor, the Science and Engineering Graduates Scheme, or as a participant in the Fresh Talent: Working in Scotland Scheme will not be able to apply for entry clearance under Tier 1 (Post-Study Work).

www.ukcisa.org.uk

I have already been in the UK on a post study work scheme but now I'm a student again. Does this mean I can't apply under Tier 1 (Post-Study Work)?

Only if you need to apply for entry clearance (a visa) from outside the UK to enter under Tier 1 (Post-Study Work). Since 27 November 2008, the Immigration Rules have prevented you from applying for entry clearance under Tier 1 (Post-Study Work) if you have ever previously had immigration permission under the International Graduates Scheme (IGS), the Science and Engineering Graduates Scheme (SEGS) or the Fresh Talent: Working in Scotland Scheme (FT:WISS). However, if you have previously had immigration permission under one of these schemes, and you have then undertaken further study in the UK with student immigration permission, you can apply in the UK to switch to Tier 1 (Post-Study Work) if you meet all the requirements. This is because the Immigration Rules for applying to stay in the UK are different from the Immigration Rules for applying to enter the UK. The Rules for applying to stay specify that you must not have previously had immigration permission under Tier 1 (Post-Study Work) but, unlike the Rules for entry applications, do not extend that to IGS, SEGS or FT:WISS.

If anyone got IGS within the UK (leave to remain) can go back to student and again can claim PSW.

And if anyone got IGS from outside the UK (entry clearance) can go back to student but cann't get PSW.

And once got PSW within the UK or outside, cann't get PSW again.

Thanks for that.

Will try to match it up to the UKBA policy as it seems at odds with what I have been told previously.

Have noted some points that are inaccurate on the same site so a little wary of the advice given.

It states / suggests that PSW will count towards 10 year ILR claims - that is just not right.

Why not (276A-276D)?

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... idance.pdf
Time spent in the Tier 1 (Post-Study Work) category does not count towards the period an individual needs to spend in the United Kingdom before being eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain.
Leave in the Tier 1 (Post-Study Work) category does not lead to settlement.

Although the PSW category (245V - 245ZA) does not directly lead to settlement, I don't think that the Long Residence Rules (276A-276D) exclude PSW holders.
