Sponsorship on Part Time Job

Post by 9elizabeth » Fri Feb 09, 2024 2:34 pm

Hi there,
I found a Mobile App Developer whom I would like to employ but due to his visa situation, I need to sponsor him. And to sponsor him, I need to pay him a salary of 22000 per year. Can I employ him on part time basis and still sponsor him? Is that allowed?
Your reply is highly appreciated.
Thanks

There is no minimum number of hours work as long as the minimum salary is met. So if the minimum rate for the role is £30k and you pay £30k for the reduced number of hours then it becomes irrelevant.

HOWEVER this does not work in reverse - you can not pro rata down the salary down below the rate for the role. In effect this is why sponsors do not offer part time roles unless the migrant is paid substantially more per hour than the minimum for the role.

Under no circumstances would you be able to pay £22,000 for a job role regardless, as it sits below the current minimum threshold of £26,200. There are limited exceptions to the rule but it is unlikely a part time worker could meet even the exceptions
