Skilled worker Going rates

Hi there,

I understand that MAC (Migration Advisory Committee) is reviewing the SOL. As part of this exercise or wider immigration related updates, is the Home Office reviewing going rates for other occupation codes that are not on the SOL. If the rates are being revised, would these impact those already in the country?

It will impact those already in the U.K. on the skilled worker route. These changes will not be retrospective.

do we know for certain that a wider review of all going rates is beign done? The last revision was back in Aug 2023, not long ago.

The biggest change will be the increase in the salary threshold. Essentially forcing all roles outside care and education to meet circa £38000. So it becomes irrelevant what the rate for the job is unless it is above the threshold.

Thank you. I just came across this information confimring going rates to increast to median salary for all new entrants, however for exising skilled worker visa holder they will continue to be at 25th percentile, so they may see some increase but not massive.

I work at NHS England on grade 8A (£50,952 annual salary) as Senior Project Manager. I guess I should be okay. My current visa expires on 15 Aug 2024.

The median salary for Project Manager is £52,896 as per the ASHE survey 2023. That's a massive jump from exisintg £39,100 going rate for Project Managers.

Tensed situation as not much clarity on existing skilled workers in the UK. Currently going rate for my job code (5423) is 18,600.

For members under new 38K threshold who already has SW visa and is in UK, is the new threshold applicable during SW Visa Renewal and during ILR?

That is the MAC report- it is their recommendations and thinking.
The Government usually follows the recommendations however there are distinct differences in the current approach particularly in the private care sector

Until the formal guidance is issued by the Home Office there is no point in having a discussion about future rates for roles.
There is one point that is certain - the general threshold for all roles is going to dramatically jump to much higher levels.
Government approach is not always aligned to MAC and I believe this will be the first time there will be such a large difference.
The Government wants to hugely reduce the net migration figures and by raising the thresholds it believes this will dramatically cut the flow of migrant workers. In tandem with the huge increase in earnings requirements for spouse / partner it is clear that the intention is to manage migration through economic measures.

This is the median salary for the roles which will be applicable to all new entrants coming under Skilled Work visa. Those already in the country will still have to meet the 25th percentile salary. Previously the 25th percentile salary for Project Manager was £39,100.
