CIVIL PARTNERSHIP APPLICATIONS + PROPERTY DEEDS

Post by gornalboy » Sun Jan 18, 2009 4:53 pm

Although still new to this Board, I haven't read much comment about proposed settlement applications for civil partnerships. Should I read it exactly the same as marriage?

Secondly, I am very worried about handing in my land registry deeds - is there any alternative to handing in the originals?

Many thanks!

Yeah get a solicitor to write a covering letter for the attention of BHC stating that attached are true copies of entry's from the landy registry and title deeds. Make sure the solicitor mentions your name in the letter that you have instructed this.

There is much cheaper alternative than going to a solicitor to certify a copy of your deeds.

You can get an official copy of the title deeds from the Land Registry for only £6. This is what I did and enclosed it with my partner's proposed CP application. You need to print out form OC1 and send it with a cheque to the land registry office that deals with your area. Make sure you request a paper copy to be sent to you by post, not by e-mail. Don't do it online as then you will only get an internet copy. Best to mail the request to them and get an official copy.

Useful links below:-

(This page contains a link to from OC1 and instructions)

The main page for land registry. Can't get the link any more direct. Go to customer service then list of areas to see where to send your form.

The page below gives a link to the fees table, it's a bit complicated. If in doubt, give your local office a phone call to check the fee etc.

The UKLGIG forum is also very useful for information specific to civil partnerships but yes the process is identical to marriage or if proposed CP to fiancee visa.

All the best
