Documents required for Naturalisation as British Citizen (Spouse of BC)

Post by Robstin2014 » Tue Jul 16, 2024 9:32 am

Hi,

My wife received her ILR back in April.

We have now submitted her Naturalisation Application.

We have been told that we must provide 'Proof of living in UK for 3 years if applying as the spouse of a British Citizen'.

How are we expected to prove this? With more correspondence (bills, letters, bank statements etc)? Surely the HO can confirm my wife has been living in the UK for more than 3 years (its actually been almost 8 years)...?

Any advice on this would be appreciated.

As an ILR holder your wife's passport (with stamps) covering the residency period is sufficient.
It's the applicant who has to provide proof.

If she doesn't have stamps on her passports she needs to submit either government letters or a letter from her employer/P60, bills/bank statements are not accepted. If she doesn't have enough evidence she can apply for a SAR with the border office free of charge and submit that as evidence.

Thanks for clarifying.

She can get a letter from her employer confirming the length of her employment (its been 3+ years).

We should also have some of her P60's over the last 3 years.

Would Council Tax bills or NHS Letters be permitted also?

How many items would the HO expect? The Spouse Visa's and ILR Applications we completed previously advised on a quantity of correspondence required. Is this not the case with BC Applications?

Edit: to confirm, she doesn't have any stamps in her passport. As a US Citizen she has been using the e-gates at Heathrow.

P60s and employer letter will be enough for citizenship to prove her residence.
