Did your wife switch to spouse visa inside UK or she applied for and was granted from outside UK?dellledd911 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 3:52 pmHi Everyone,
I hope you're all doing well. I have a question regarding my wife's spouse visa renewal and would really appreciate your advice on our current situation.
Here's a bit of background: I have Indefinite Leave to Remain, and my wife was granted a spouse visa on the 11th of July 2022, which is set to expire in December 2024. My wife left her job in September 2023 to attend a 6-month course, and after a long job search, she has finally secured a position that starts next month.
The issue we're facing is that I’ve been informed that I will be made redundant next month. I've been employed continuously for a long time and have never had any gaps in employment or claimed any benefits. Given the current job market, I'm concerned about how long it might take for me to find a new job. If I don't secure employment before my wife's visa renewal application in December, I won’t be able to provide payslips beyond September due to the redundancy.
My question is: Is it possible to apply for the visa renewal in September instead of waiting until December, so I can submit the last 6 months' payslips without any gaps? I read on the Home Office website that you can apply to extend your stay at any time before your current permission expires. However, I’m unsure if there’s any specific rule on how early we can apply.
Additionally, after the renewal, what will be the validity of the visa? Will it be 2 years and 5 months or 2 years and 9 months?
I would greatly appreciate any advice or insights you can share based on your experiences. Thank you so much in advance for your help!
Best regards

Why would the OP (who has ILR) need a letter stating "needed for the foreseeable future" for a spouse visa FLR M extension?? There is NO such requiremen that the employer letter must state this.Ticktack wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 2:22 pmIt's a bit of a sticky situation. No one can tell you how it would pan out exactly. You have a few options, not the best, but options nonetheless.
You could apply early whilst you're still in employment, do a normal time visa. delay her biometrics a little. This would take her 2 within 2 months of the normal date.
Bearing in mind that her visa would be expiring early before she's actually due for ILR. You can apply 28 days early, so that knocks off another month (sorta).
Validity of new visa would be for 2.5 years. That should get you to almost the finish line.
The hard part would be getting your workplace to write you a letter stating that you're needed for the unforeseeable future. Which is very much foreseeable now.
