Work permit necessary for contract work for US company?

Hello
I've been offered contract work with a US company which provides services solely to the US and has no legal status in Canada but has office space in BC. They pay in USD from a US bank account. Do I need a work permit to start working for them?

I'm currently on Provincial nominee visa for a different company but have been laid off.
