Who can act as Sponsor for Join Family Visa? Can you have a Co-Sponsor?

For a Non-EU family member coming to join Irish citizen in Ireland, who can act as a sponsor? Is it just their husband/wife, or can other people be considered as sponsors such as sister-in-law, mother-in-law etc?

I've also read on a solicitors website that it is possible to have a co-sponsor, is this true?

Appreciate any information :)
