I fail to see how more asylum applicants can be considered good news.

It's certainly good news for the applicants. Particularly those who can't provide extensive documentation to prove they've been tortured or suffered severe violence.

Yes, it is good news for those that can't prove that they're subject to harm if returned to their country.

But it's also not so good....

The UK law changes have all used phony asylum seekers as a reason why they need to toughen up on all areas of immigration, and there is a backlash against asylum seekers already here. To make the changes mentioned in the article, and eliminate the need for proof, only gives those that would take away immigration rights more of an excuse to do so.

It also hurts those that can truly show harm, as more will view asylum as a phony way to gain entry into the UK.. even in the cases where it's very real.

Tricky one this. As per your argument it seems that those with more minor reasons but who have some forged paperwork should be given priority over the really deserving cases.
