Bringing a child over to the UK

Post by twostars » Thu Apr 09, 2009 11:58 am

A friend who now holds a British passport wants to bring his 9 year old child over here from Zimbabwe.

The mother is in Zimbabwe and they are no longer in a relationship. How does he go about bringing this child over. What rules apply. Can he apply for the child to come while he is here or does he have to go to Zimbabwe to get her?

Your responses will be much appreciated.

hi

He can bring the child over but has to meet quite strict conditions

Who does the child live with in Zimbabwe ?
who supports the child financially ?
will the childs mother object to the child moving to the uk ?

if we know these things it will be easier and more acurate to advise your next step

my daughter was granted ILE couple of weeks ago. i went to zimbabwe myself and submitted the application on the 30th of march ,the visa was granted on the 15th of april in pretoria. my daughter,s case was different coz she did not have a father on her birth so the issues about sole responsibility did not come into play. i suggest you tell your friend to get sole guardianship first before applying , then he need to show that he has sole responsibility of the child. his case is a bit tricky coz the child is living with the mum so ECO always assume that there is a shared responsibility between the two parents.

to prove sole responsibility he need to show that he has made regular contacts with the child for those past 9years for example telephone bills with the mother,s phone numbers, he also need to show that he has been sending money, birthday cards, x-mas cards, presents to the child in those 9years. its a bit tricky but you must have faith. i never thought my daughter ,who i did not see for nearly 8years would be granted indefinate within 2weeks but God works miracles hey!!!
arrived in UK 2001 got ILR 2008 ,now working so hard
