What is the standard verification process?

As a curiosity,i just want to know what is the standard verification process for the HO to verify documents?
i.e.pigeons,phone,e-mail,fax or a standard form?
Does the applicant have right to demand for the result from HO whether the verification process is done or not?and if yes,for the result then rather than listening to `Awaiting further consideration?'
