Pregnancy and security check at PEO when applying in person

Post by ashugurgh » Wed May 06, 2009 8:05 pm

Me and the wifey were planning to go in person to apply for FLR at PEO and had already taken an appointment this month. Since we found out she is pregnant I am now a little worried if the security checks at the PEO are going to be strenuous on her. Since we have unfortunately gone through a traumatic phase with a miscarriage in the past I wanted to inquire if there would be any xray machine (xrays are supposed to be harmful on the growing foetus and are best to be avoided is what the doctor advised us since she is in an early stage of pregnancy). Are there any other security checks which may not be good for her and best avoided in a pregnancy. Also how long does a postal FLR application take, as we are even considering that as an option.

It will be like an airline security check. It is something like this:

Scanners for bags to roll through (x-ray but shielded and the operator sits in front of it remember, so safe), wand for sharps and possibly walking through a knife arch. There will be a female security guard to "pat down" women if necessary. Sharps such as scissors and knives go in a bag and are kept with security, you get a ticket and they are returned when you leave.

Which office are you going to? People could give you their recollection of the process for the particular office.

There are seats and there may be a drinks vending machine or water fountain, but take some refreshments just in case. It is usually a fairly straightforward process.

If she feels unwell or delicate, let a manager know.
