All Irish GNIB Cards and Immigration Stamps 1-6 - all info

Post by mendo » Thu May 14, 2009 12:14 am

Hi All,

I found this document on a link posted by ca.funke on another thread, from the Swiss Embassy website, that has a list of all Irish GNIB cards that allow entry to Switzerland.

What is amazing about this document, is the fact that it has a list of all the Irish GNIB Cards and type of Immigration Stamps 1-6 with photos , plus photos with the stamps in the passport for each type of them.

This is the only document of this kind that has such info and not even the INIS website have such document or explanations.

Ejoy the info:

Mendo

good find mendo.

only one correction - Swiss are in shengen now , so only EU4FAM and stamp 6 ("new Irish") may enter Switzerland without visa.

A word of warning:

You may no longer enter Switzerland with any Irish Stamp!!!

Corresponding thread with all details >>here<<.

Yes, it's illogical, but that's the way it is :(.

Regards from Zürich :).

PS - I never saw "Stamp6" before. From my understanding it means by definition that you hold Irish citizenship. As such (=Irish) you may enter Switzerland at any time. I just wonder if "Stamp6" in a non-Irish passport is regarded as an equivalent to an Irish PP. Why not just carry a real Irish passport?

Hi ca.funke,

Having Irish citizenship and an Irish passport doesn't solve all the problems.
Let's say that you are Indian or Ukrainian and you haven't renounced to your nationality after you got your Irish citizenship.

If you have to go back home you will have to use your non Irish passport with the Stamp 6 and a re-entry visa in it, in order to be able to came back to Ireland.

Because the two states are not accepting dual citizenship you can't use your Irish passport to travel back home or to travel internationally from home or to home, because you risk to get caught by the border police.

If you are in Ireland and want to travel internationaly you can use your Irish passport, your home country won't know.

Regards,

Mendo

PS. ca.funke I never said "thank you very much" to you for all good work you've done here on the forum. God bless you and best of luck to you and your partner where ever you are know.

thanks ca.funke,

that makes sense now - Switzerland is Shengen, but not in EU.

Lots of people get confused about that.
