Work permit extension

Post by ShaanK » Tue Jun 23, 2009 12:34 pm

My brother came to the UK on a work permit in may 2006. His work permit is valid for 48 months, when his work permit expires can he apply for an extension? If so how should he apply, which forms and what evidence?

If he transfers to another company, would he have to make a fresh application for a work permit and a new visa or can he work on the same visa but a new workpermit? It would be the same job but with another company. Does changing employers reset the clock for ILR?

thankyou for your help.

thankyou for your help.
1. To extend WP, its the responsibility of the company who have sponsored it, so your brother does not have to worry. Employee will send appropriate application form to fill.
2. After the expire of existing visa, if the employer wish to extend his visa then they will aplly for FLR.
3. If your brother changes company then the current WP becomes void and new employer has to apply for new WP ( Since WP is bound to sponsored employee and not like Tier 1, who can work for any one ).
4. By changing employer, ILR clock wont reset.

thankyou for the reply.

so can the homeoffice ever refuse to extend the work permit?

Also someone told him that there is no longer applications for work permitbeing accepted, does this mean applications for work permit extensions are no longer accepted and that someone also told him that he have to apply through hsmp to extend his work permit, is that true? will he be subject to the points based system? if so he would need to apply through tier 2, does he apply or his employer?

many many thanks

The new rules of Tier 2 apply for the extension.
