thank you rozen.we have just made a self apployed application to the Inland Revenue and waiting for their reply.My question now is, what documents do we need to submit with our application to show that my wife is self employed when making application as a family member of an EU citizen? thanks

Is the EU citizen self-employed?

You should look at the EEA2 application form. It discusses documentation to send.
