Hi All

Wanted details about cost of living in Milton Keynes for a couple. I am planning to move in by Jan 2010 on Tier1 General & Dependant and search for a job in IT field. I am hoping that the IT job market will improve by then. Kindly let me know the detailed breakup like

1. House Deposit/Advance (One Time) (Is this refundable?)
2. Monthly Rent for a fully furnished 1 BHK or Studio with TV, Fridge, Washing Machine etc.
3. Council Taxes (Monthly/Yearly?)
4. Groceries & Stationary for a couple (Monthly)
5. Public Transportation in and around Milton Keynes (Monthly)
6. Internet Connection Deposit/Advance (One Time) (Is this refundable?)
7. Internet Rentals (Monthly)
8. Mobile Connection Deposit/Advance (One Time) (Is this refundable?)
9. Entertainment - rubbish Tickets etc. (Monthly)
10. Eating Out - Indian Restaurants etc. (Monthly)
11. Other expenses (Please let me know if I am missing anything here)

Thanks in advance...

1. House Deposit/Advance (One Time) (Is this refundable?) £500+. Refundable. Although depends on in which condition you leave your house.
2. Monthly Rent for a fully furnished 1 BHK or Studio with TV, Fridge, Washing Machine etc. £500+. Depends on area & condition of the property (recently refurbished, re-decorated, etc)
3. Council Taxes (Monthly/Yearly?) Around £1000 for two per annum
4. Groceries & Stationary for a couple (Monthly) £50+/week if you cook at home.
5. Public Transportation in and around Milton Keynes (Monthly) Milton Keynes is more of American style towns. A grid of motorways with communities in between. You're probably better off with cheap car.
6. Internet Connection Deposit/Advance (One Time) (Is this refundable?)Generally no deposit required.
7. Internet Rentals (Monthly)£10+/mo
8. Mobile Connection Deposit/Advance (One Time) (Is this refundable?)In the beginning you will probably go for Pay As You Go. No deposit required.
9. Entertainment - rubbish Tickets etc. (Monthly)Around £7/EA.
10. Eating Out - Indian Restaurants etc. (Monthly)Average portion in restaurant/canteen is £6+/EA.
11. Other expenses (Please let me know if I am missing anything here)TV in MK is a little different to say London. Most of the MK is wired with cable so you can't have normal aerial to enjoy free[view] British TV. You will be required to sign up for Virgin Media, Sky or BT, depending on the area. £30+/month

Thanks in advance...

Don't forget to factor in the cost of some Class A drugs, MK is one of the most soulless places on earth, you'll need to 'escape'.....

Thanks so much Korben Dallas, Wanderer & itsme.

If not for MK, what would be a cheap and good place around London? I'll be looking for a job in IT field.

Do you mean to say I should go for health insurance which will cover cost of drugs as well?

Korben Dallas: Shall surely contact you in case of more questions. Thanks once again for the detailed information which you have provided.

You might be better off looking at Welwyn Garden City - Hatfield - Potters Bar corridor.

There are IT jobs within these areas and it is quite easy to commute to central London.

No! It includes the average time taken for a Russian woman to shower - 2 hrs and I'm not kidding here. Every day!
