VISA APPROVED,PLS I NEED HELP

I received my Tier 1 visa approval today after almost 14 weeks of waiting.

Date Applied/Docs sent: 15-May-2009
Date Docs reached HO: 18-May
Date Payment Deducted: 18-May
Current Status: Approved
Date Passport/Docs received from HO: 22-August-09
Result & VISA stamped: Approved
Current FLR Status: HSMP to Tier1 (G)

I am a bit confused my initial HSMP visa expire on the 28th of May, 2009 and the current visa start on the 18th of August 2009. Hope wouldn’t be any problem with my future application.
I submitted my application on the 15th of May before the expiration of my HSMP visa. Please do I need to contact Home Office or is it normal?

Why did it take so long for you anyway?

Until a decision is made on a VISA extension application the current leave is deemed to be valid.

Imagine what would have happend if you applied on the last day of your VISA validity? The processing would have taken 4/5 weeks. What do you think the start date in this case would have been? Answer this question and you have answer to your problems as well.

Dont worry about it as my previous visa expired on 8th Jan and extn dated 22nd Jan.. i checked with HO and i was told that as long as i can prove that my application was sent before the expiry of the LTR i should be fine. So i am keeping my ref letter for the ILR purpose..
