Date residency begins?

Post by file girl » Wed Sep 09, 2009 2:16 pm

Hi,
With regard to application for naturalisation (I realise there is a few years before this can be applied for, but just checking we have the correct information first)

My non- EU spouse and I married in September 2008 to myself, an Irish citizen. (in Ireland)
We made an application to the Depatment of Justice in October 2008 for his permission to remain in the State.
My husband finally got issued with Stamp 4 in April 2009 and we went to GNIB together to register etc.

My question is- does the residency requirement for naturalisation begin on the date of marriage, or from the date of Stamp 4 being issued?

Thanks

as far as i know it starts from the day you and your non eu spouse started living together in ireland and if you can provide enough evidence that you both were living before marriage as well like a bill or statement you will count your time from that day not from the day you got stamp 4.
