Master IT degree from Pakistan

Dear All,

I heard from a friend that NARIC is not assessing Bachelors and Master degrees earned in IT field from Pakistan and not awarding points for it. Although they are assigning points for degrees in engineering field. I got one reply from this forum regarding this. Just to confirm anybody else from Pakistan applied under this category.

If PBS Calculator awards you points for your Masters Degree you are good to go irrespective to NARIC.

86. For academic qualifications, if the applicant cannot find details of his/her qualification on the points based calculator, he/she may still wish to claim points for it. If so, he/she should contact UK NARIC directly for an assessment of the level of the qualification and, if UK NARIC confirms it is of the required level, obtain a letter and/or confirmation certificate from UK NARIC. Contact details for UK NARIC are on its website at http://www.naric.org.uk. UK NARIC may charge a fee for confirming qualifications.

Thanks all for reply. Actually i understand that even if PBS calculator does not award points for degree ,one still can contact NARIC for equivalence. One of my acquaintance applied for Master degree equivalence and he was awarded zero points and he was told that they are not accepting IT degrees from Pakistan. It looks weird to me. I have already wrote any email to NARIC for clarification on this. I hope they will reply.

If you degree is not recognised by HO then it would be better to apply along with NARIC certificate of comparison. Did your friend applied with NARIC certificate?

Yes, I have heard before that Pakistan's master degree from most of institutes is considered as UK's Bachelor's degree by NARIC. But I would suggest you that when you send an application for UK equivalency of your Masters Degree to NARIC, you should send all of your transcripts and coursework details, to give them an idea for comparison.

If UKBA calculator awards you 0 points for claimed degree then it is worthwile assessing degree from NARIC, if NARIC gives you certificate confirming your degree equal to british masters degree then you may be able to get points for your degree.

However (according to my limited knowledge) NARIC will only give you degree equal to British Masters degree if you have 3 or 4 years bachelors degree followed by 2 years masters degree.

Someone with 2 years bachelors degree followed by 2 years masters degree does not have any chance of having degree equal to masters degree from NARIC.

P.S: All the master in engineering degrees from Pakistan are considered equal to British Masters degree.

It is very unfortunate that all most all MS degrees from pakistan got 0 points except Engineering. I have applied to NARIC and got their letter stating Bachelor degree (honor) standered, Even i have 4 years BS(CS) and 2 years MS(CS) from FAST. I also submit a letter from HEC stating that MS(Software Engineering/Computer Eng) and MS(CS) are degree of same level and are awarded after 18 years of scholling, Infact NARIC only award 35 points to Eng degrees even if these are Comp Eng or Software Eng. Hopefully you will be satisified now.

If you could provide solid evidence after making comparison between the course work that you have studied with any UK's computer science Bachelor/Master's degree and satisfy NARIC that it should be awarded as UK' Master equivalent, you can appeal against their decision.
