Msc In Strategic Marketing

Post by johnybrasco » Thu Jul 07, 2005 10:45 am

Hi all :)

I have been admitted in Cranfield University for an Msc in Strategic Marketing. I have approx 4 yrs of Work Ex. I have done my MBA (Top 100 universities, Financial Times) from USA in 2001. I have worked in a Telecomm industry for over 3 yrs. (1 in US & 2 +Yrs in India). Please advice what should I expect after completing my studies. I mean regarding the job market, Visa etc.

Not being in the marketing field I may not be of much help here. However having attended several of Cranfield's management programmes I can certainly vouch for its reputation but somewhat surprised your undertaking an MSC given the MBA - curious as to the rationale? Perhaps the Chartered Institute of Marketing may provide some pointers?

Johny,

A trifle late to yr post .....
But truly, this sounds strange for MSc is an inferior qualification to an MBA in the UK.

BTW, are u into it already?
nJOY !
may u grow by leaps and pounds !

Where did you get this from?
All masters degree are equal though one's employability differs after completing the course.
An M.Sc in UK is lot more difficult than an MBA especially if its in one of the pure sciences or engineering.

Johny, cld u possibly shed some light

Post by Sher » Sun Mar 19, 2006 4:31 pm

I was talking abt MSc in business areas like Marketing, HR, Finance ....
This is the perception most UK recruiters seem to carry. I was told this by a professor of a Top 5 business school in Britain, albeit in private.

Of course, Johny if he is into it already will be able to shed more light.

Its right that employers prefer an MBA than someone with an MSc in business areas but thats for professional reasons. Academically, the qualifications are equal.

Indeed, there is why you see that quite reasonable number of British Citizen ( as well asl EU Citizen) are taking MBA degree. As you know, in MBA program in the UK there is no Home or oversees fee. All students pay the same tuituin fee. In a good MBA school someone are willing to pay about £ 35K fro executive MBA

An MBA is a jack of all trades (business related) while an MSc in a business related subject is a master of one.
