ILR-3 months away rule

Can the more experienced people on this board tell me what happens if I am away from the UK for more than 3 months in any given year or for more than 6 months in the 4 year period.

Why I am asking this is because I have secured a job in London which requires me to travel extensively across the UK,Europe and the US?

My visa would be an HSMP visa.

you need to get a letter from the employer expalining the situation which war similar in my case!
