What happens next, please advice.

Post by lilly09 » Tue Nov 24, 2009 2:43 am

I am 22 yrs old and just graduated with a Bachelor in Science (obv UK institute), applied for PSW and got it in sept this year til 2011.
Now I am job hunting but refering to this table of points for visa extension
http://www.hsmphelphere.com/calculator_ ... ension.php
given my age and background, I need to have earrnings in the band £26,000 - £28,999 therefore earning 25 points to qualify.
I mean...I should only be aiming at jobs with a high salary which is a bit tough as I dnt have much experience and this psw thingy is for ppl who just finished university.
Is it that easy to make that much on your first years as a full time worker....you tell me...

please help, thanks!

come on man still you got almost 2 years left , apply for a job and in the meanwhile polish your skills as well while you free , as you said you are 22 to after 2 years you will be 24 or max 25 still you can gain highest score for your age, so your age will compensate your earning don't worry every thing will be fine just focus on your goals

I am being realistic....refering to that particular table, I said given my background, education, age and so on...things I cannot change in order to get the total of points to qualify, you have to have a salary of around 30K pa. Now I just think thats gonna be tough and I am looking for some consolation lol...but srsly

I think you miscalculated the points. In order to qualify for Tier 1 gen you will need to show:

1. qualification - only masters do qualify with 35 points. If you currently hold BSc Hons degree, it will not be accepted.

2. UK experience - you can claim 5 points if you have lived in the UK for 2 years or more prior to making an application.

3. Age - you can claim 20 points as you would be under the age of 28 at the time of your future application

4. Earnings - if you add up 35+5+20 you will get 60 points. You will only need to show earnings for 10 points which is between 18,000 and 19,999 band. And that is achievable. Please refer to the table below.

Points Available for Earnings Claimed – Initial Applications
For applicants making an initial application the following points
can be claimed for previous earnings:
Earnings Points available
£40,000 + 45 points
£35,000 - £39,999 40 points
£32,000 - £34,999 35 points
£29,000 - £31,999 30 points
£26,000 - £28,999 25 points
£23,000 - £25,999 20 points
£20,000 - £22,999 15 points
£18,000 - £19,999 10 points
£16,000 - £17,999 5 points

However, since you are only 22, it is very unlikely you could be holding a master degree because you need at least 2 years experience to qualify for the programme. However, if you have completed an ACCA qualification (all 3 levels) then your diploma could be an equivalent to the masters degree in the UK. Other than that, I don't know if that is possible to obtain a master degree at your age.

Anyway, don't panic. You now need a job of around £20,000pa and that is possible. Good luck

Sorry, i myself miscalcualted the points. You need 75 points in total to qualify, so your earnings should be for 15 points, not 10. Therefore, you should be earning between £20,000 and 22,999 to qualify. And that is possible as well.

Thank you for taking your time to post this.

I however do state since the very beginning that I got a bachelors no masters, and a masters last only a year no big deal, I jst dnt wanna get 1, so that got nothing to do with my age or me being too young to have 1.

I am just freaking out as it is hard to find a good job.
I will get used to it.

cheers =)

You are calculating points for something that is 2 years away. Things might be quite different by then, who knows? Keep trying to improve yourself always... and keep abreast of new rules that's all I can say.
