how to know if I have reg with HMRC

Post by rice_porridge » Tue Nov 24, 2009 11:49 pm

just want to share with other members, hope it's helpful

1, after registration, you will receive a letter from HMRC telling you UK Tax return Ref 10 digits;
2, quarterly, you will receive a bill from HMRC telling you to pay for the NI Contribution bill for 31.20 pound. There is also a payslip enclosed'
3, then your accountant will ask you to pay for tax before 31st Jan 2010 after calculation. and the online pdf version of Tax Return 2009 will be filled out and printed off by your accountant. You then need to sign it and pay.

I think those are primary evidence that you are reg with HMRC. If I am wrong, please point out.
Thanks

Best thing would be to call the self assessment team and seek a UTR confirmation. They will normally give you as a letter but will never tell you over the phone. UTR is your 10 digit unique tax reference.

hope this answers
