No Response yet from Home Office

Post by s_a_n » Tue Jan 12, 2010 6:26 pm

Hello Gurus.

I had sent my (HSMP to Tier1) extension request to UK Border Agency (Tier1, PO Box 496, DH99 1WQ) through royal mail next day recorded delivery on 6th of this month. Post Office tracking shows that this was delivered on the 8th.

My concerns are that:
1) The money has not been deducted from my debit card
2) I have not got any response notification from the boarder agency.

Is this normal or should I take any pro-active action now?

My visa expires on 31st of this month,

Regards,

Application received on Friday last week and you are already worried after 1 working day ...... expecting them to deduct the application fees, post acknowledgment letter and also making sure that it gets delivered to you in 1 working day .... well, you're expecting too much :D

Relax and wait till end of this week.

regards

Thanks for the reply. I was a bit worried seeing the 'response timelines' posts which seemed to indicate that payment was deducted the very next day of receiving the post. I will be patient.

It is unfortunate my application got rejected - reason being that my bank has a debit card limitation of 750 pounds as against the 820 pounds required by Home Office (I was not aware of this). They have sent it back to me today. I will need to re-apply with another mode of payment.

Gurus

I need some information. Since my debit card does not work (due to limit on 750 pounds) I wish to pay this money in another form:

1) Cheque - Since I have run out of cheques, I am planning to send my wife's cheque. Will this be an issue?

Or

2) Multiple postal orders (as the limit is 250 pounds as I just read it on postoffice.co.uk). This also looks like an expensive option. I may also need to spread this over 2 days as my bank allows me to withdraw only 350 on daily basis.

Can you please give me your suggestions?

Regards,

1. Visa/Mastercard credit card with (unused) credit limit of at least GBP820.

2. You can withdraw any amount of money in one go from the bank counter. If you have run out of cheques, ask your wife to withdraw 820 from her bank using a cheque. Then get the postal oders (keep a record of postal order numbers or keep a photocopy. Also mention po numbers in cover letter).

Thanks Sush. I don't use a credit card so I am going with the postal order option. That looks pretty safe but a bit expensive (around 40£ for 820£).

I didnt know that banks in UK have limit on debit card transactions when you have enough funds in the account??? I think some banks and in US and Canada do it.

s_a_n, can you please confirm which bank is this?

Can any seniors comment please....

Well, as far as it is your money, why should there be a limitation? In some of the banks, they block a huge amount transaction. This is done from a department that prevents fraud. So You may have to talk to the bank prior to the transaction.

Otherwise, if you do not have a credit card, ran out of cheque, then the only possibility is by Postal Order. (Yes bit expensive)

Aruni, Vks

It is ICICI Bank. I should have called them and notified them but this came out of blue for me. Now it is a bit late as I don't want to risk it again.

Anyway I got my postal orders now.

Also, I guess I cannot use my wife's cheque as it is clearly written in the application that behind the postal order or the cheque, applicant name and DOB should be written.

When did you apply?

s_a_n has mentioned that his debit card was from ICICI Bank.

Which bank's debit card details did you provide?

Call up your bank.
If the transaction has not yet completed, you could ask them to allow it.

Naveen,

My documents had reached them on 8th and I receive my rejected application back on 21st or so.

Since yours is Feb. 15th I suppose there is enough time still. Even so, I think there is a re-appeal (or similar) for 28 days or so. I think it would be good idea to call them once (the phone queue takes 20 minutes I guess)

My visa expired yesterday (31st Jan). I have re-applied on 22nd but have not got a response yet.
