Good Day Everyone
Please i need candid advice fast to this 2 questions i want to ask
1. My family(Wife, self & Daughter) applied for Tier 1 (general visa) and the visa was granted. The visa was stamped 23rd December 2009 but due to the holidays we couldn't collect from VFS until 4th January, 2010.
what is the maximum number of days we can stay before coming to the Uk
2. My wife is the main applicant while i'm the dependant; she has a project she is handling currently at her place of work and it won't finish until the next 5months but i want to come in 21st of January, 2010.
i just want to ask if their is anything wrong in me coming into uk first since i'm the Dependant .
Please i want seniors in the house to help

The guideline says that it is better to enter the UK within 28 days for a reason (Which is with respect to your further stays later) But, you may enter at any time, until the visa validity.

The dependant should not enter before the main applicant!

Hi VKS
Thanks for your reply
1.so it invariably means the main applicant must come into UK at least 28 days after getting the visa (is 28 calender days or working days) and what is the implication on further stay.
2. I have a two years Valid visa on my passport which will expire February 2011; can i come into the UK with it instead of the Tier 1 general Visa.
3. Can i study with the Tier 1 general visa

You may have to renew the Visa again, since the clock for ILR at the moment starts the day on which you enter the UK
2. I have a two years Valid visa on my passport which will expire February 2011; can i come into the UK with it instead of the Tier 1 general Visa.
what kind of Visa do you have? The reason I am asking this is that the latest Visa that is approved for you will supercede the previous Visa that you had! [color]
3. Can i study with the Tier 1 general visa
The direct answer is that you can study, while you are on Tier 1 Visa

Hi vks
Thanks for your quick response but i still need one more clarification
For 28days entry period, they collected our passport 12days after it was stamped. The visa was stamped on 23rd december2009 so when is the most appropriate time to enter the uk and if there is a guidiance note i can read for more information pls can you place the link so that i can go through.
2.the other visa in my passport is visit visa

The one mentioned in the Residential requirements section is a sample that I am talking about. You need not worry about this for the moment, as the rules may change, when you complete 5 years!

Thanks a lot VKS& vinny for all the infos supplied to my questions
I and my wife with our daughter will be leaving my country on January 21 to arrive jan22 in the uk.
I have three more questions to ask
1. Please what are the things/documents we need to come to the uk with?
2.Like i said earlier, my wife is on a project at where she currently works so she'll return back to my country in 10 days to give proper notice of resignation and handover. What is the time frame for her to stay out of the uk after initial entry because she is planning to stay for 4months and she is the main applicant.
3. As the dependant, how long can i stay in the uk without the main applicant around?

Search this forum, as this is repeated question and you should get the answer, if you skim through the past week

As we said, not more than 90 days at a stretch, which again is for ILR
3. As the dependant, how long can i stay in the uk without the main applicant around?
There won't be any problem, unless you are crossing the border.

1. I'll be coming in with my family 29days after visa was stamped (which 16 working days after visa was stamped) i want to know if this will not affect ILR after 5yrs because we don't want a second extension

ILR has nothing to do with the date your visa was stamped but everything to do with your date of entry in UK.
Assuming that you will enter UK on 21 Jan 2010 and that the residency requirement (which currently stands at 5 years) remains unchanged, the earliest date you can apply for ILR will be 24 December 2015 (i.e.- max. 28 days before you complete the 5 years residency requirement). You must ensure that you have leave to remain until then, else you'll have to apply for further leave to remain before applying for ILR.
