Citizenship

Post by bm » Mon Mar 15, 2004 10:40 pm

Does anyone know if there are constraints when one gets the UK citizenship e.g. does one have to remain in the country for a number of days per year etc.

Thanks

Generally speaking, no constraints -- a British citizen can live abroad indefinitely.

However, this would be in contradiction with the previously stated intent to make the UK one's main home (speaking of a naturalized citizen), so I imagine this may surface in some discretionary situations, e.g. one ends up in some criminal proceedings, etc. when stripping one of the citizenship is in question - perhaps one's not actually residing in the UK may tip the scales...

Let's hope you'll never have to worry ;)
