Register child now or naturalize as my dependant later?

Post by bobo77 » Wed Mar 10, 2010 6:21 pm

My children and I all have ILRs. This means my children are now eligible to be registered as British citizen as they were born here. I will be eligible for Naturalization at the end of the year.

If I decide to register my children as British citizens now, it would cost us about £560. but I'd rather wait and include them as my dependants when I become eligible to naturalise at the end of the year, this will save me their £560 registration fee.

My question is: Can I include them as dependants in my application for naturalization at the end of the year.

In answering please consider the fact that they are now eligible to be registered as a British citizens and that they were both born here, the eldest is 3 years and the young one is a year old.

Thanks in anticipation.

'Unfortunately' there is no such thing as 'dependent' on naturalisation applications. Basically each person fills their own form and must qualify on their own. When it comes to fees Spouses can pay a joint fee, currently £850 and minor children pay £460 for 1st child plus £50 for each additional child. Fees are going up in April so it will cost you an extra £67 for your 2 kids
Otherwise they can apply at the same time as you if you so wish.

fees are different for British overseas citizens though
