wedding by proxy

Post by mestree171 » Fri Mar 19, 2010 12:31 pm

Hi everyone,

Im looking for someone who could help me on the matter below.
Me - Brazilian getting married by proxy in Brasil
Her - Lithuanian.
what we need : The Brazilian law states that all the documents should be translated by a SWORN TRANSLATOR. Ok

But, i cant' find anybody who can translate from Lithuanian into Portuguese.
My question : Can the documents be translate from Lithuanian to English by a simple translator and the from English to Portugues by a SWORN TRANSLATOR ? Because as far as i know the documents translated into Portuguese is the one that concerns to the Brazilian notary.
Thanks a lot. Sergio

Sorry if I've missed a vital point here...but if you're living together, why the Proxy marriage?
The Lithuanian Consulate in Sao Paulo should be able to translate into Portuguese or advise where this can be done.

Is there a Lithuanian embassy in Brazil who would be able to translate into Portuguese?
We met a year and half ago here in london, the she left and ever since that day we were just "online dating".
so she moved a month ago to london, then we decided to share a room, as she's new in the country, she needs to sort her life out at first (NI,bank acc, etc),(and this is the easiest way to do, cos we are broke now) I mean, we met a while ago, but i would say that now we are dating properly.

There's no Lith embassy in Brazil, the nearest one is in Argentina, and they speak in spanish, LOL.

for a proxy marriage to be recognised for UK immigration purposes it has to takeplace in two countries where proxy marriages are legal.

They aren't in UK, so one party cannot be in UK for the marriage.

There may be no Lithuanian Embassy but there is a Consulate in Sao Paulo.

Both countries (Brazil and Lithuania) recognizes wedding by proxy, and none of the parts need to be present at the ceremony. Im 100% sure about it, so thats not the case, Thanks a lot guys !

Why don't you apply for a Certificate of Approval for permission to marry in the UK (COA). She could then apply under EU regulations to remain as your wife.

But you are in UK so a proxy wedding is not valid.

In any case r u sure Lithuania recognises proxy weddings? I'd imagine it follows the Soviet system....

Yes, proxy marriage is valid in UK indeed, and Lithuania is an independent country, therefore is valid.

Cheers
