Supplementary work

I am postdoctoral researcher. I wanted to apply for tier1 general and I am short of points. I wanted to earn more by doing a supplementary work. I have an offer of doing proofreading of Students thesis. This work would be for 10 hours per week and I can do it in weekends and at evenings. Is this legal?
