My Initial Experince in UK on HSMP

Post by simar » Sun Oct 16, 2005 5:06 pm

Hi Guys,
I would like share my exprince since I have laned on 6th october in london. I have got my HSMP visa two months back in first week of August.
I cooly sit in india and apply for jobs in UK.

I started getting many e-mails and phones in india itself. in the last week of august. Typically consultants start taking intertset if they know you are avaiable with in 1 to 1 -1/2 month time.

I got couple of telephonic interview setup in september. WHat I find the people who interview me are just interted in what I have done so far. They will just discuss what projects I have done and they means & ways it was conducted. (I am embedded telecom professional.)

Also got chance to give one online c test .

So what I understand in this phase. One get lot many consultants calls from UK. Just take that cooly. No need to get excited. Thats just the checking they are doing before floating our resume to the companies. typically they rush to write that they are going to SOLEY represent our case for the comapny. I guess lest some other consultant came with our resume with same company. The one who come first is the real reprentative. They usually want written mail of confirmation from your side. Fine give the same.

Before you land up in UK. Make your give couple of telephoine interviews, AND DID setup personal interviews date with some of the companies. I was able to setup 3 in person interviews.

Now the next setup is where to land up in London. obviously if some of your relatives lives here or freind lives and are ready to accomate you for inital time IT is very helful. Othterwise go for HOSTEL resevations. Better go for shared one. But at the most gp fpr 2 people sharing same room. ( NOT 4 or 6 as options are avaible). remember your main focus to get pass these hard earned two- three interviews, that are setup in coming week.,

I find many people in tis forum talk about renting chaep acco in hounslow/ southall area . Personally speaking until you do not have JOB. No body wants to give accoumation on rent. Thier first question is , whether you are emplyed. In case you say NO and try to reason I am HSMp applicant. Was earning good back home etc etc. They will simply not listen. Or well they will say fine so you earn good amount back home, give us two month advance etc etc. We just canot do as we have no idea where to relocate based on job

Bye the way I landed in UK on 6th October. Give interview on 7th , on monday , ands hereup . I got one job,. -).... It was nice sommthover.

Make sure you have local UK refrence of your profession. Genreally emplyers want local UK refrence to speak with. Need not related to technical skills But more on relability.

So now freinds I have to going that company on 24th Oct. So enjoying london weather. Surpringly,. last 2-3 days very sunny in london. I am enjoying go around places....

So the moral of my experince

Do not rush to UK one you got visa.

WAIT well for two months.
Apply in jobserve etc on internet
Get calls of consultnts ,Some telephonic interviews will be setup
Give them & make sure you get in-person intervew time setup for UK
UK is very expensive ( from india point of view). Getting job as soon as possible is must.

Country as whole seems good to me for living. Rest more once I get settle down...

Simar,

Thanks for sharing this useful information.

You mentioned that you got HSMP Visa two months back in August. Was this the entry clearance date or HSMP approval date? I want to know how much we can possibly delay our travel date after the entry clearance date. When we go for entry clearance, I know that we can post date it by three months. In that case, can we travel on the 4th or 5th month?

Ashwin2005,
Two months back I got EC clearnace only. The HSMP approval I got three months back.

sjgul,
I guess the rounds of interview are purely subjective assement. It can vary from job/ company/ person profile. In my case on same day I have two rounds of interview. Only the first one was technical . It lasted for two hours. Final round was conducted by senier person. He seems more inclined in looking into HR prospective type interview. Plus I have telephonic interview in the beginning while I was in india.
Also in the end they do interview / have talk with persons of whom I have provided the reference.

itsme,
You are right buddy. In my case two months just passes. Now for 20 days I am without work. SO now remain 9 months. Here too I guess we have apply for extention before 2 months. So in all only around 7 months salaray slip is all I can/will provide. I guess that should be fine.
