The present Government has been consulting on the details, and has not yet announced the result of that process. And clearly they will make no announcement during the election period.

The new Government? Of course we don't know who that is, or how they might deal with the matter. As far as I am aware no party has commented specifically of this matter, in their Manifestos.

There was some discussion in this thread about the "earned citizenship" scheme that is expected to come into force in 2011.

Despite the name, "probationary citizenship" will not be a form of British nationality. Rather, it will be a glorified form of limited leave to remain between limited leave as such and either naturalisation or permanent residence.[/url]
