Brazilian Birth Cerificate/Marriage Licence - URGENT

Hi, I am busy collating all the documents with my lawyer for my boyfriends fiance visa to come to the UK. One of the documents needed is his birth certificate. My boyfriend gave me his marriage licence (he married young and is now divorced).

He said in Brazil when you get married your marriage licence replaces your birth certificate and you no longer have an actual birth certificate.

Can anyone please clarify this for me? I am not saying I dont believe him I just dont want the application refused for a reason like submitting the wrong documents.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
