National Insurance Number?

Post by buttercup88 » Thu Jun 17, 2010 8:03 pm

I called the Job Centre Plus early last week to get a national insurance number.

They asked me what nationality I was, where I got my spouse visa, and then where I was living.

I was expecting them to arrange an interview... but they didn't. Instead, they sent me an application by post.I filled it in and sent it with photocopies of my passport and visa last Tuesday.

I've been waiting but haven't heard anything yet.

I was really expecting an interview or something.

Is this the normal process for getting a n.i.n.?
Also, how long does it take for them to send a letter with my number in it?

I'm starting work next week so I would like to have it asap.

There has been a change of policy and those effectively already known to the Government because of the issue of a visa will no longer need an interview. Instead it will be a postal application.

Sorry I don't know how long a postal application takes .... please let us know!

I just got in the post.

It took 10 days (after I posted the forms back to them).
