Please advise when a visa application should be made for travel in january 2011.

Would a tourist visa be the best option for my unmarried partner to apply for to come and vist me and our 8 month old daughter that he has never seen and he has also never visited the uk.
I have been advised of a family visit visa, and access to child visa.
Any suggestions

What is the actual purpose of the visit? Do you want him to settle with you in the UK?
