Do you mean to say you have applied for Tier 1 for both you and your wife seperately ? In this case marriage certificate is required coz, in

"Annex A - Supporting Documents Checklist" area of your VAF9 form,

in Personal Details Section, it clearly states,

Unless single, please provide evidence of your marital status
e.g. marriage or civil partnership certificate

or

Have you applied for a Tier 1 for yourself and a dependent for your wife ?
In this case, YES, a marriage certificate is required as an evidence.

I am assuming you have submitted the PBS Dependent Application Form, along with your Tier 1 General Application Form.

See, Section 6 - Summary Sheet,

-> Marriage or Civil Partnership Certificate.

You are expected to submit your Marriage Certificate as evidence for proof of marriage.

I'd suggest you to immediately try and send the certificate before they pick up your application for processing.

Yes, you can.

You can send in more documents as long as they reach us before a decision has been made.

Have a look at,

Above is quoted from a similar discussion with regards to sending in additional documents, have a look at,

But do realize that it is quite possible for the documents to get lost when a reference no. is not provided. The risk is yours to take.
