Travel to France with Hong Kong Passport

Post by SWT » Wed Jul 28, 2010 10:59 pm

Just want to get some advice from experts...

I am currently waiting for my Indefinite Leave to remain application, just want to know
1) if I can go to France with my Hong Kong Passport?

2) will i encounter any problem at UK immigration Border if I provide all the relevant documents to prove my legal stay in UK to work ( documents including employer contract, acknowledgement letter from UK Border of my application is being processed, copies of passport and leave to remain).

Many thanks.

You'll need your original passport to travel therefore there is no travelling until UKBA have returned your passport.

If you have your original passport for some reason (it should have been included with your application) then you can travel. I would take your acknowledgement letter as proof of your pending ILR status and that your current status is still valid.
Please note due to personal circumstances I am no longer unable to reply to Private Messages.

You mean you have applied for ILR as a BN(O) and have submitted your BN(O) passport to the UKBA and the application is being processed? Meanwhile, you also have a HKSAR passport and wish to use it for a visit to France and then re-enter the UK with it?

If so, you should have no problems returning to the UK after your trip providing that you carry documents proving that you are also a BN(O) who is lawfully resident in the UK and whose application for ILR is currently being processed by the UKBA.

Apologies if I have made incorrect assumptions.

Just a lucky guess.

Also no, and I could be wrong. I just can't see an IO refusing entry to a person who can prove he is lawfully resident in the UK and has an application for ILR currently under processing.

Wait for others to advise. Not my area of expertise I'm afraid.
