If you marry Islamically it's not a legal marriage in UK.

if you have an islamic marriage you must register the marriage for it to be legal in the UK

I believe Wanderer is saying that Islamic marriages that are not registered are not legal

Please correct me if I am wrong

This is legal under UK law.As op want to apply visa from Pakistan so he dont need to registre marraige in UK.

Even from yours own link

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8493660.stm Read lines I quote here for you.
'If a couple has a nikah in a Muslim country then the marriage is recognised under UK law.

The OP states that he wants to marry in the UK so according to the link provided he has to register in the UK or his mrriage is not legal.

Awaiting our friend from Batley to clear up any confusion

I was talking spouse visa from Pakitsan. But in this case You are right.

Ok let me put this in simple words. He needs to first apply for Finance Visa from Pak.Then while in UK he would need to apply for COA and get permission for marriage. Then he can switch to spouse visa.

I get yours point. He needs to apply for COA in UK then he can switch to Spouse visa.

But there are remours home office is going to scrap COA soon.

Here is link.

COA is NOT required, and has never been required for fiancées, they can switch to spouse without issue.
