A 5 year student visa! What course did you say you were going to attend when you applied for this visa in 2007? And did you actually complete the specified course?

A student visa is for pursuing a specified course at the university / college that has accepted you as a student for the specified course. A new course with same institution may be allowed without a new visa but only when there are no gaps. Therefore, IMHO, you may need a new EC under Tier 4.

To ensure that you do not get into immigration problems later on, best to check with local BHC / UKBA whether you can use the old visa to enter UK and study a new course!

Did the application form (2007) ask you for information regarding your course / college / university? Specified doesn't necessarily mean that the name of the course / college / university be mentioned on the visa.

Had you been currently in the UK and wanting to join a new course after completing the current one, you wouldn't have needed any permission or a new visa. So are you in the UK and when did you complete your B.Sc?

In that case, you should be safe as you have just completed the B.Sc course and intending to study further from the very next academic year with the same education provider.

The following applies to Tier 4, but guess also applicable to people under the old student visa rules:
If you want to do a different course of study with your education provider wrote:You do not need to get our permission if you want to do a different course of study with your Tier 4 sponsor and the new course will finish before your current permission to stay expires. Your Tier 4 sponsor will tell us that you have changed course.
If your new course will end before your permission to stay expires, you must tell us by sending an email message to migrantreporting@ukba.gsi.gov.uk.

If your new course will end after your current permission to stay expires, you will need to make a new Tier 4 application to us. You will therefore need a new confirmation of aceptance for studies from your Tier 4 sponsor. You can make this new application at any time before your current permission to stay expires, but we recommend that you do this as soon as possible.
