which bank account type is best?

Post by poor_soul » Wed Aug 25, 2010 4:02 pm

hi seniors,

i recently got my T1G visa. i plan to go to UK, work there for a year and than apply for visa of my dependants: wife and son(9 months old). for visa applications of my dependants later, i was thinking about the account type which can increse the chances of application being successful.

The options i have are:

1) a savings account in my name in the home country
2) a savings account in my name in UK
3) a savings account in my wife's name in our home country
4) a savings account in my and wife's name in our home country

pls suggest the best option.

You may open or maintain a bank account in any regulated bank anywhere in the world in any of the following combinations:

Main applicant = Sole account in own name or joint account.
Adult dependent = Sole account in own name or sole account in main applicant's name or joint account.
Child dependent = Sole account in own name or sole account in either parents' name or joint account with either parent or joint account of parents.

IMO, opening a joint account with your wife and sending some money into it now and then would be a good idea. It might get handy to prove that your relationship is subsisting at the time of her applying visa. By no means it is mandatory.
