ILR - change of passport during 4 years!

Post by zwer » Thu Jan 05, 2006 9:42 am

All,

Has anyone got an experience of applying for ILR _not_ with the passport they entered the UK 4 years ago? What additional documents are required in this case?

My passport has been replaced by the embassy of my home country, but the old one had to be destroyed according to their regulations. I've got a certified copy of the front page and the entry stamp in the old passport, but certainly not all the pages with all exit and entry stamps.

What additional documents the immigration officers may ask for, e.g. to prove no 3-months absences?

Those who already applied - how rigourous are the officers when checking for absences, e.g. I heard they may ask to produce a boarding pass for any trip abroad.

Now, back to funds. Why do some people say HO want to see up to 15,000 in a bank account? I've got a decent salary, but simply invest it elsewhere (in the UK), and my balance on the current account won't tell them much. Anything I can use to persuade them?

Much obliged for any answers.

Isn't your more immediate problem that you currently have no passport containing permission to stay in the UK. You really do need to use form TOC to get a valid sticker in your passport.

Shame about the old passport. Certainly retain all the evidence you have to substantiate all the time in the UK.
Why do some people say HO want to see up to 15,000 in a bank account?
Haven't got a clue why anyone would want to give out such misinformation. Who are these people who are saying that?

Sorry not to make it absolutely clear - my current passport has got a proper sticker valid for over 4 years, thus being a solid proof of me sticking around for the last 2 years. Now, what evidence 'about my time in the UK' are we talikng about except for entry and exit stamps? Got payment slips for all 4 years, as well as some old utility and bank statements.

As far as I'm concerned, none of these indicate whether I've been abroad or in the UK ;)

Not too experienced on this, but wouldn't the certified copies for your old passport be enough?... i am sure you are not the first national of your country to seek ILR, so the HO would know about your passport situation.

As long as you provide enough payslips and P60 document, HO should be satisfied that you are in a regular income mode. Not sure if they require to see evidence of £15k savings.

Hope this helps.

zwer,
You can ask your current/ex employer to give you a letter saying how long you were working for them in the UK. Anyway you will require a letter from your current employer to support your ILR application. And if you haven't changed the employer, then you can add the employment duration in the same letter.
Also you can take your very first WP ( ie the one on which you entered UK for the first time) along with you. I'm sure it has got the Immigration Officer's stamp on it when you entered UK for the first time.
These two documents should make a your chances better for ILR application.
From my experience I can tell that the HO people want to check that you are on some regular income to support yourself and any dependants. For this, last six months bank statements/pay slips are sufficient. The min. £15 K savings is absolutely nonsense thing.
Good Luck.

I've got a letter from my current employer only.
My appointment in HO is soon, and if they ask for a letter from the previous employer, would it be possible to supply it later without closing the case and without paying the fee twice?

The WP itself was just a letter addressed to my previous employer that I had to give back to solicitors when changed the company. The leave to enter based on this WP - was a stamp in the previous passport that has been destroyed.

I find that quite surprising zwer (that they destroy your old passport) just out of curiousity are you willing to tell us which country that is?

Bank transactions over the recent years would also show you have been in the UK. Ask your bank for copies of your statement for the period required... withdrawl in UK cash machines would too indicate you were around.

Maybe copy of your old passport+former employer letter

Zwer, are you from Russia?

Why don't you call them up and learn directly?
