Spouse Visa for Tier 1 (General) Migrant

Post by adhirajp.21 » Sun Jan 02, 2011 3:52 pm

Hi All,

I am an Indian national and hold a Tier 1 (General) Visa (valid from 16th October 2009 to 16th October 2012). With this visa I have lived and worked in the UK for nearly a year.

I intend to bring my wife over to the UK and we are planning to file her application as a Tier 1 Dependent towards the end of the month. In this context I wanted to clarify if the following is indeed the list of doccuments that we need to submit -

1. VAF10
2. My wife's passport (in original)
3. Recent photos
4. The visa fee
5. Evidence of her relationship to me (Marriage Certificate)
6. A copy of the pages from my passport showing my visa
7. My UK Bank Acct Statements for the last 3 months showing the minimum balance was always above £1,600 (to be safe about the 1 year clause)

A few other queries:
1. I gather my wife's visa will be valid as long as mine is. Is this correct? Somewhere I came across a 27-month validity but it may have been for a Settlement visa which is different from a Tier 1 Dependent?

2. I am slightly confused about the doc attached in the following link -
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... icants.pdf
Whereas it states that spouse of Tier 1 Migrants are exempt, in all other places on the webiste there is a repeated mention of the English Language Requirement. Can we do without submitting anything for this?
May be just her Bachelor Degree certificate to be safe?

3. I also read somewhere that one needs to submit a sponsorship letter (from me), my rental contract and a NOC from my landlord stating that it is fine if my wife stays with me in the same flat. Are all of these mandatory?

I would really appreciate if someone can help me resolve these doubts and let me know if I am missing out something important in the document checklist.

Best regards.
