Query: Maintenance funds for Tier1(General) Dependent

Post by rakshu_hs » Sun Jan 09, 2011 7:44 am

Hello all,

Recently my husband got his Tier 1 General VISA and is currently in India only .I am now planning to apply for the dependent. As I understand for the dependent application, I need to show a total funds of 4400 = 2800 (Main applicant)+1600 (Dependent) for 3 months.

Currently my husband has a savings of around 3500pounds in his account for the past 3months and i have around 900pounds in my savings account + Fixed Deposit for past 3 months.

My question is :
For the maintenance funds is it mandatory to have 1600 pounds in my bank account itself or Can I show my husband`s savings to show a total maintenance of 4400 (3500 from Main applicant + 900 from Dependent)

Thanks in Advance.

You can use more than one account, as long as either yourself or your husband (or both) is named on each. It sounds like you are very much borderline - I hope you have taken exchange rate fluctuations into account.

I one of the accounts only my husband`s name is there and in my account only my name is there (both of us are not there together in either of the accounts).

Regarding the borderline, I also have a 500pound Fixed deposit in my name in a District Co-operative bank which I will be showing. So in total the following would be what I am planning to show :

1. 3500 pounds from my husbands bank statement
2. 900 pounds from my bank account
3. 500 pounds from the FD which is in my name

Just be sure to read the other comments on this board regarding fixed deposits.

Hi, I Have the similar situation( Got MY Tier 1 and have not entered UK). Now i wish to apply for dependent visa for my wife and daughter. I asked VFS helpline and they assured me that i need only to show GBP 1600( for my wife) + GBP 1600( Daughter). They categorically said i need not show the maintenance requirement GBP 2800 for me. Can somebody confirm that it is correct as i have read on other links to the contrary.
Regards
Amit

If you are using a separate account for the dependents maintenance then maybe yes, but if you are using the same account, then you should maintain the full amount.

Also, if you only have £3200 between 3 people, that's not going to last very long. There's a very good reason why they specified you should have this money.

Hi,

As per policy guidance for dependant as below

If the Tier 1 Migrant is outside the United Kingdom or has been present in the United Kingdom for less than 12 months, each family member of the Tier 1 Migrant must show that he/she, the Tier 1 Migrant, or (for children) his/her other parent who is also legally present in the United Kingdom has at least £1600 to support him/her; this is in addition to any funds the Tier 1 Migrant needs to prove he/she has enough money to support himself/herself. Please note dependants of Tier 1 Investors do not need to satisfy the maintenance requirement.

If the Tier 1 Migrant has been in the United Kingdom for 12 months or more, each family 41. member of the Tier 1 Migrant must have £533 to support himself/herself.

so u need to maintain funds for youselves also.

Definitely show the total funds required including that of the main applicant. The VFS website clearly shows the following on their front-page:
VFS Global and its staff cannot give you advice on how to complete your application, or what type of visa you should apply for. If you need help with your application or advice about the UK's immigration rules and requirements, you should seek advice from a qualified immigration adviser. In the UK immigration advisers regulated by the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC - www.oisc.gov.uk).
VFS is an agent to help with the collection of biometrics, applications and to do a quick quality check on applications (not even to check for completeness). They are ultimately not the people making the decision on the application and are responsible for the "logistics" around it only, not the quality/decision part of it.

I have a little doubt here.
First of all here is my situation : I am on Tier 1 (General) with my 4 year old son as dependant. My husband is on Tier 1 (PSW).
Recently, I applied for extension and showing maintenance fund of £800+£533.

My question is.
1. I just realise that the same bank account (it was a joint account with me and my husband's name) was used to apply for my husband's Tier1 (PSW) a year ago. However it does not came across my mind to maintain £800+£800+£533 since it never mentioned on the guide about it.
I mean if I know about this whole complication, my husband actually have his own account whereby he maintains the £800 balance, however this account was not created yet a year ago when he applied for PSW. But submitting his account on my tier1 extension as additional £800 sounded wrong since my name is not there and he is not my dependant or anyone who had anything to do with my application.

2. I didn't send any marriage cert with my extension because I didn't know whether it is necessary (this visa application has nothing to do with him). However, I read somewhere in this board discussion that the holder of a joint account must be your spouse. So, do you think I should send it in addition to the document I've sent?

Thank you
