PIO or OCI

Hi All,

Can you please help me to clarify my doubts.

I am due to apply for ILR for me and my wife. My son was born in UK in Feb 2008. I am planning to get my son registered under Registration of a minor as a British Citizen with out getting his ILR. Can you help me to understand whether I have to apply for PIO card or OCI card for taking him to India and their limitations.

If your son never held an Indian Passport, then he would be eligible for a PIO.

Thanks for your response. AT the moment he has indian passport and UK limited to remain visa. I am planning to get him registered as a minor as a British Citizen after I get ILR. Then I need to apply for PIO or OCI. Hence was the question.

I think that OCI looks more beneficial than PIO. Am I right?

According to section 7A of the Indian Citizenship Act the child may not be eligible for OCI until either parent acquires foreign nationality.

Can anyone tell me while applying for Minor I can see we need to provide thumb impression on those 2 boxes but can I sign on behalf of my child in Declaration (3rd page of form / last column) or do we need to take thumb impression their as well.
