NOTARIZED COPY OF BIRTH CERTIFICATE.... PLEASE HELP!

Post by chazcarbone » Sun May 14, 2006 8:53 pm

hello there... and thank you in advance for the help... we're puzzled right and are really tight for money... so any help from those who have experience is much much appreciated!

my girlfriend was born in turkey but has been living in england and is an english citizen... she does NOT have turkish citizenship.

in order to apply for english citizenship, she had to obtain her original birth certificate from turkey. which was a beurocratic nightmare!!!!

the certificate was deposited in england and she could not get it back as the immigration keeps that document for good.

but she did make notarized copies of the certificate in england (before depositing the original). basically, a notarized document stating that the original was photocopied.. by a legal law firm who is authorized to notarize.

will that document (notarized copy of the original) be satisifactory when applying for european citizenship?

Not sure I understand what the problem is. If your gf is British (there is not such a thing as English citizenship), she is by default, European.

She does not need to apply for a "European citizenship". It does not exist by its own, you have to be a citizen of a member country to have the European citizenship, which is granted by defaul. On top of her passport, it should read "European Union".

As well as the valid comments made by Rogerio I don't understand :-
the certificate was deposited in england and she could not get it back as the immigration keeps that document for good
Who exactly has got it? The office in Liverpool that deals with Naturalisation applications? Or who?

Whoever has it she should simply ask for it back.
