That is a staggering statistic? Any idea why? Far far higher than other places in the West Indies.

By the way, rather than looking at the applications received, it is better IMHO to look at the numbers granted .... 552 ... and those refused .... 988 .... a rejection rate of 67.4%. Those numbers of 552+988 are actually higher than the number of applications received, showing that their "cases outstanding" count was lower at the year end than at the beginning.

But why so high? Are applicants for settlement visas in Kingston so ill-prepared?

About 2 to 3 years ago ; Jamaicans never required Visas to get to the UK - but apparently they 'swamped' the country (According to David Blunkett) - so he had to clamp down on them..

I am sure this had a knock on effect for applications in Kingston as well....

The reason why Jamaicans now require a visa to visit the UK has less to do with ordinary Jamaicans and more to do with Jamaican drug barons coming to the UK. The problem is that the visas regime did not help much (but to frustrate ordinary law abiding Jamaicans) as these drug barons have enough money to buy any EU passport they like.
